iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max: always more powerful, and without a notch

During its back-to-school keynote, Apple formalized four new iPhone models. This year, the Pro versions are in the spotlight and are the only ones to offer several important developments. Here are the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Talked about for months, the iPhone 14 are official and they are among the big ones. In 2022, Apple is again cutting its range in half with “classic” versions and Pro variants. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the Apple brand’s new flagship models. For once, Tim Cook and his teams have decided to reserve the main new features for these two more premium devices. The CEO of the firm also evokes the “most innovative Pro range” .

Goodbye notch, hello Dynamic Island

At first glance, we reveal that Apple has decided to play the continuity card instead. However, one element very quickly caught our attention and concerns the famous notch that appeared with the iPhone X. Criticized since its release or almost, it quickly disappeared among competitors of an Apple that will have needed more time. Indeed, the firm relies on FaceID technology covered with different sensors that had to be successfully integrated. This is now done on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max which offers a more modern “Dynamic Island” integrated into the system.

Indeed, the Cupertino company does not want to follow the competition and does not really opt for a punch. The “Dynamic Island” integrates with the system and the notifications or alerts will adapt around this pill.

The general look of the range does not change in large widths, with still 6.1-inch screens for the Pro and 6.7 inches for the “Max” variant . Diagonals identical to those of the classic models, but the similarities end there. The new iPhone 14 Pro (Max) get an all-new ProMotion display with adaptive refresh rate (1Hz to 120Hz). They offer an impressive 2,000 nits of brightness .

Above all, Apple takes the opportunity to integrate always-on technology (always on) to display practical information such as the time or notifications. On the back, the most observant will notice a change in size at the level of the photo block . This change is linked to the modifications made by the manufacturer to the photography section (see below).

With the A16 chip, the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) widen the gap

Under the hood of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, there is logically an A16 Bionic chip . The latter succeeds the A15 Bionic of the iPhone 13 and the brand reserves a surprise here by only offering this new SoC on the “Pro” models. The big premium brothers therefore widen the gap in the iPhone family by being the only ones to have this chip engraved in 4 nm . The firm evokes performance 40% higher than that of the competition, while remaining on a six-core architecture.

At the same time, the chip claims better energy efficiency. Performance cores use 20% less power ; while high energy efficiency cores would be more economical than their main rivals. The A16 chip is also used for the photo component of this new “Pro” generation.

A revolution in photo and video

While the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus offer major upgrades, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max promise a “new era” in photography. These offer a particularly large photo block, with the presence of a new 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor . The latter replaces the 12-megapixel module, which is a major step forward for the firm. It is 65% more imposing than the previous one, allowing the brand to put itself at the level of the competition on the material level.

Inevitably, the choice of a large sensor makes it possible to offer twice as much brightness as the main module of the 13 Pro Max. Alongside the new 48-megapixel module, the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle which brings many improvements; but not really a revolution. A telephoto lens (x3) of 12 megapixels completes this photo part.

His presence promises in photos, as well as in video. The new iPhone 14 Pro (Max) promises improvements with the Cinematic mode which switches to 4K at 30 fps and 4K/24 . On the other hand, Apple does not mention the possibility of recording videos in 8K.

iPhones sold at very high prices

The novelties brought by the Cupertino giant do not affect the prices of the iPhone 14. It will cost no less than 1,329 euros for an iPhone 14 Pro with 128 GB of storage . The versions with 256 GB and 512 GB of storage are displayed respectively at 1,459 euros and 1,719 euros. A 1 TB variant will be marketed at 1,979 euros.
