Since the release of the iPhone 13, many people have been watching the news about the iPhone 14. At first, however, rumors about the iPhone 14 should be viewed with extreme skepticism, regardless of the source. While it is true that Apple is testing new technologies a lot, the availability of those technologies is intertwined with complex factors such as technical feasibility, cost and availability of parts from suppliers.

 iPhone 14 Rumors Recap

As such, Apple itself won’t be finalizing specific specifications for the iPhone 14 until the first half of 2022. While some rumors are more likely than others (it will undoubtedly feature an A16 processor manufactured by TSMC), the early-stage rumors are more of entertainment than credible information.

With these caveats in mind, let’s take a look at the rumors about the iPhone 14 that have been revealed so far.

iPhone 14: rumors about size, design and display

Iphone 14

The iPhone 12 comes in four sizes. The regular models are the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 5.4-inch mini, and the high-end models are the 6.1-inch Pro and the 6.7-inch Pro Max. The same goes for the iPhone 13.

However, there were rumors that Apple would abandon the mini model in favor of the cheaper Max model with the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 is said to be released in two types of 6.1-inch iPhones (regular and pro) and two types of 6.7-inch iPhone Max (regular and pro). These rumors are good news for users who want the Max size but are not comfortable with the high price of the Pro Max. There are also rumors that the iPhone 14’s finish could be made of titanium rather than stainless steel , and that the volume controls could return to the original shape seen on the iPhone 5S. In a report released in early December,

Ming-Chi Kuo argued that, at least on the iPhone 14 Pro models, the display would not be a notch for the traditional TrueDepth sensor, but rather a punch-hole shape similar to the camera on some Android devices. “The Face ID array will still exist right under the display,” McRumor reporter John Prosser said, predicting that the notch will remain on the regular iPhone 14 model, due in October. Prosser also predicted that the iPhone 14 would be thicker, so the camera wouldn’t protrude and it would be flush with the rear glass.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman also reported that in September 2021 the iPhone 14 will be “completely redesigned with new entry-level and pro models.”

There were no specific rumors about an always-on display on the iPhone 14, but there were many rumors about an always-on display before the iPhone 13 was released. Therefore, it can be assumed that the always-on display, which was not realized in the iPhone 13, has been postponed to the iPhone 14, which will be released this year.

iPhone 14: rumors about the camera

The iPhone 14’s camera will definitely have some big changes. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is considering a 48MP sensor for a standard wide camera that collects 2×2 pixels of light in low-light situations that take 12MP photos. It is also said to be capable of shooting 8K video, at least on the Pro model.

There were rumors that the Pro model would have a ‘periscope’ lens with variable zoom function, but according to the latest rumors, the periscope lens will be on the iPhone 2023.

iPhone 14: Performance, Battery, Biometrics

The iPhone 13 Pro model is equipped with a 120Hz promotional display and a panel made by Samsung, while the iPhone 13 regular model uses a 60Hz display made by LG. According to rumors, LG Electronics is known to produce a 120Hz LPTO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) OLED display to supply to the entire iPhone 14 product line. In other words, it is possible that all models of the iPhone 14 will have 120Hz promotion technology. This is a typical Apple trend of introducing new features to the Pro model and introducing them to the rest of the product line a year later.

Every new iPhone is equipped with a new A-series System-on-Chip (SoC), and the iPhone 14 is expected to be the same. The A16 is expected to be the first large-scale processor using TSMC’s 3-nanometer manufacturing process, which will help improve iPhone performance, efficiency and battery life. However, in November 2021, The Information suggested the possibility of sticking to the 5-nanometer process due to the difficulties of TSMC’s ‘state-of-the-art manufacturing technology’.

According to MacRumors , Haitong International Security has announced that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will come with 8GB of RAM. The iPhone 12 and 13 have 6GB of RAM, and 8GB of RAM will be the largest Apple has ever loaded into a smartphone.

Mark Gurman in the Bloomberg Newsletter At PowerOn , Apple hinted that Apple was testing an in-display Touch ID sensor that could fit into the Pro models. However, according to Gurman, Apple is “going all-in on Face ID for a high-quality iPhone” with the ultimate goal of “implementing Face ID on the display itself.” Gurman didn’t comment on whether the iPhone 14 would have a notch, but it’s a rumor that aligns with Proser’s unnotched iPhone 14 rumors.

According to Ming-Chi Guo’s report, the iPhone 14 could be the first Apple device to support the Wi- Fi 6E protocol. However, Guo warned that supply issues could hamper production if Apple adopts a 3×3 or 4×4 MIMO design. iPhone 13 supports 2×2 MIMO.

iPhone 14: rumors about release date and price

Typically, Apple releases a new iPhone in the fall, and releases the product two to four weeks later. There was no news that this practice would change in 2022.

The price of the iPhone 14 is expected to be slightly different from that of the existing iPhone family. Ming-Chi Guo predicted that the 5.4-inch iPhone 14 Mini would not be released, and that a 6.7-inch Max size and priced under $900 could be available. With this in mind, the iPhone 14 will likely cost between $800 and $1,000, depending on the model and size.

The price of the Pro range may change with the advent of the new 6.7-inch regular model. According to LeakApple Pro, Apple is considering raising the iPhone Pro family by $100 each to $1,099 (iPhone 14 Pro) and $1,199 (iPhone 14 Pro Max). “This is because production costs have risen and we need to establish a price difference of more than $100 between the iPhone 14 Max and the iPhone 14 Pro,” said  Leak Apple Pro .
