A teaser video containing in-game play of ‘Sonic Frontier’, a new game in the Sonic series scheduled to be released this winter, was released today (1st).
Prior to the release of this teaser video, ‘Sonic Frontier’ released a teaser trailer last December, heralding the change to an open world. At that time, the trailer showed the existence of a mystery attacking Sonic, a vast field, along with the remains of the mystery, raising expectations. This teaser video contains more detailed information about the game.
The first thing that stands out in the teaser video, which is about 40 seconds long, is the change to an open world. Unlike the previous series, which was a stage system, ‘Sonic Frontier’ is characterized by being composed of one huge world.
As you can see from the fact that it is a single world, there does not seem to be any restrictions such as map loading to move a wide map. You can also check structures related to the open world. It is a structure that looks like a treadmill, and it is presumed that it scans the surroundings when Sonic rides on it and runs. As it boasts a wide field, it seems that you will be able to unlock a specific area or obtain information about that area.
Changes in the combat system are also notable. In the case of the existing 3D action genre Sonic series, the battle system continued from the Sonic Adventure series and Sonic Heroes was slightly improved. A typical example of a homing attack was to run fast and jump when it encounters an enemy to attack.
However, there was a change in the combat system. It is related to Sonic’s ‘trajectory’, which has been shown through several trailers. When Sonic runs, a kind of trajectory is drawn, and if this trajectory continues, enemies inside it take damage and are bounced up into the air.
Of course, this is not to say that the homing attack has disappeared. As the new combat system boasts excellent compatibility with homing attack, it seems that you will be able to feel the fun of a different battle that has not been felt in the Sonic series so far.
You can also check out the battle with the giant boss. However, there is a difference from the previous Sonic series, in that the enemies of this series are somehow different from the robots of Eggman (Doctor Robotnik), who have appeared as Sonic’s eternal opponents so far. Unlike Eggman’s robots, who have come together with narcissism to take their image, the enemies and bosses in ‘Sonic Frontier’ are somewhat reminiscent of aliens. In addition to the weather, you can check various factors as an open world.
‘Sonic Frontier’ officially supports Korean and will be released this winter on PC, PS4, PS5, XO, XSX|S, and NS. Meanwhile, as Sega plans to hold a showcase to introduce new projects on the 3rd, other detailed information about ‘Sonic Frontier’ is also expected to be revealed on the same day.
