Toyota Corolla GR Has Leaked: The full official reveal of the upcoming Toyota GR Corolla will take place in just a few hours. Finally, we’ll get answers to our questions about horsepower, design, and drivetrain. Will its fender flares live up to the GR Yaris’ standard? Soon, we’ll know everything— wait, I just got word through my earpiece that all of this information was leaked online this morning. Conclusion: The GR Corolla sounds fantastic.
This morning, a staging page on Toyota’s website was accidentally made public, revealing all of the GR Corolla’s specifications (along with a few photos). The page has since been removed, but it is archived here in its entirety. The upcoming GR Corolla is expected to produce 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, all of which will be delivered to the wheels via Toyota’s GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. There was even a video of the GR Corolla’s exhaust note, which was quite impressive.
The car retains the basic Corolla’s general hatchback shape, but adds Toyota’s previously teased rally-inspired widebody. The front fenders are shaped similarly to the GR86, while the rears have a Supra-like appearance. There’s no mistaking who this hot hatch’s parents are.
Standard in the US will be “circuit-tuned suspension” and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, which wrap around a set of 18-inch alloy wheels borrowed from non-Rallye GR Yaris models.
Inside, Toyota USA promises “a GR leather-trimmed steering wheel and unique gauge cluster” – though beyond a shot of the car’s sports seats, which have been lifted from the GR Yaris, the cabin can’t be seen.
The Toyota Corolla GR-FOUR system has a 50/50 front-to-rear power split by default, but it can send up to 70% of power to the rear if necessary. On the Launch Edition cars, Toyota claims a “circuit-tuned suspension,” which sounds more roadgoing than rally, and Torsen limited-slip differentials front and rear.
The Launch Edition, on the other hand, doesn’t end there. On those first cars, unique wheels, a vented hood, and a forged carbon fiber roof will all be present. Toyota hasn’t said how many will be made, but the first GR Corollas are expected to arrive in dealerships this fall.
The most important question about the GR Corolla is still unanswered: how much it will cost. We’ll have to wait until tonight’s livestream to find out. In terms of whether it can fill the void left by the STI’s absence, well,
It’s worth pointing out the production GR Corolla is a near match to unofficial computer illustrations published by Japanese magazine Best Car last year, with a similar front bumper, rear fascia, flared wheel arches, wheel design, and body-coloured side skirts.
Toyota has made the video of the GR Corolla’s sound, embedded in this page, private on YouTube. Since that’s different from taking the video down completely, we are leaving it embedded in the page so it can be viewed once the video is relisted.
