The popular chat service WhatsApp can currently only be used on one smartphone at a time. If you have a new smartphone and want to use the same WhatsApp account, you will automatically log out on your previous smartphone. However, WABetaInfo has now found a function in beta version 2.22.24.18 of WhatsApp for Android that makes it possible to link a WhatsApp account to multiple smartphones. Linking a WhatsApp account was already possible on a desktop, but this option is also coming to the Android app.

When you install WhatsApp on a new smartphone, where you can enter a phone number to register, you will now be given the choice to link a device instead. WhatsApp is probably calling the new option “Companion Mode”. Currently, “Companion Mode” is only available in the beta version of WhatsApp. So we have to wait a few weeks to months before the feature appears in the stable version of WhatsApp.
